The narrative of the film revolves around a seemingly uneventful Christmas Eve that takes an unexpected turn, flipping the worlds of two individuals. As the protagonists, portrayed by Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi, cross paths, a blossoming romance adds layers to the plot. Noteworthy is the dual linguistic presentation, with the film shot in both Hindi and Tamil, accompanied by distinct supporting casts.

In terms of its box office performance, Merry Christmas, as per preliminary estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk, garnered ₹1.3 crore net on the first Tuesday, January 16. After a five-day theatrical run, the domestic collections reached ₹12.68 crore net. The global box office tally stands at ₹16 crore, with ₹2.5 crore contributing from overseas and ₹13.5 crore from the Indian market.
Examining Tuesday’s occupancy rates, the overall Hindi occupancy settled at 10.25%, while the Tamil version boasted a higher 26.04% occupancy.
Regrettably, despite the star-studded cast and engaging storyline, Merry Christmas failed to make a mark at the box office, receiving the verdict of a flop.

Interestingly, even before hitting theaters, the streaming rights of Merry Christmas were secured by Netflix for a substantial ₹60 crore, as reported by Bollywood Hungama in July 2023. Additionally, the satellite rights were expected to fetch an amount exceeding ₹60 crore, signaling a lucrative deal for the film in the digital and satellite domains.
